I'm at WordPress Now

As you've seen, I haven't done anything on this blog in a long time. I just had way too much going on to worry about blogging. Also, I wasn't getting any visits at this blog. So, I gave MySpace another shot. Just as I expected, it is still unstable. I ended up over at WordPress. It's working out pretty good and has plenty of functionality built in. You can view my new blog here:

Random Ramblings - http://abbydonkrafts.wordpress.com/

I'll eventually come back to Blogger and rework the blog to be for something else. Until then, see you over at WordPress!

Maybe I'll Be More Active

I've been doing so much stuff online and offline that I haven't posted anything to my blog in a while. I've also gotten annoyed with the delays in signing in, creating a new post, etc. Right now I'm trying out Microsoft Live Writer to see how well it works. So far I can see that it's not quite lining the text up within the boundaries of the theme when in Web Layout mode. I'm planning to switch themes soon anyways, so maybe it'll be better on the next one. The Web Preview looks great, though.

Hopefully I'll get around to posting some updates on what's been going on and such. I've got a few things worth mentioning, so look forward to seeing a few more posts soon.

Introducing Gonzo, the Bearded Dragon

My wife and I browse the Atlanta craigslist all the time. We especially look in the free section. We also post things on there. About 3 weeks ago while monitoring the list, I noticed one get posted for a free bearded dragon. It said that it is 5+ years old, came with the complete setup and that the person would even deliver it for free. This is because he wanted to check out the new home. Well, we've wanted a bearded dragon (albet a smaller one) and we knew the startup costs exceed $100, so I replied to the ad.

Shortly after replying, I noticed the ad disappeared. I don't know where it went. I didn't get a reply to my e-mail for a long time. Then, the guy replied on 8/4 and talked about Gonzo and his requirements and why they were getting rid of him. We e-mailed a little bit more and made arrangements for him to come out that Sunday (8/6).

Gonzo, The Bearded Dragon, #1 He arrived around 12:30pm and looked around our house. He liked that we are out in the country away from all the heavy air pollution, traffic, etc. Also, we have a large yard, so we can make a play area for Gonzo. He explained that he picked us because we sounded like responsible pet owners and weren't asking for Gonzo just because he's free. All the others either did it because they wanted a pet but couldn't afford one, or they thought it'd just be "cool", and things like that. I, on the other hand, had e-mailed him explaining what pets we have now and what I had when I lived in Virginia. I've got lots of experience with a wide variety of pets.

We set up Gonzo's tank and the guy went over feeding, etc, again. He left shortly afterwards. Gonzo was delivered in a smaller 10 gallon tank for travel purposes. His permanent tank is a 50 gallon with a wire top. Originally we were going to leave him in the 10 gallon so he could calm down, but then I figured I'd have to traumatize him again by moving him to the bigger tank. So, I went ahead and set up his tank, then I moved him into it.

Gonzo, The Bearded Dragon, #2 The whole setup, including Gonzo, would cost about $300 new. We didn't have to pay for anything. Since the guy delivered it, we didn't even have to worry about gas money or time. The guy is in Smyrna, which takes 90 minutes or more to get to. Round trip it would be over 3 hours! We especially liked that he took care of that. Also, later that night, I got an e-mail from his wife thanking us for "adopting Mr. Gonzo and giving him such a wonderful home". It also said to "please accept this small token of appreciation". They had ordered us a $25 Petsmart gift card! Of course I e-mailed back thanking them for all of it. We got the card in the mail today, so we will be going to Douglasville to get some more stuff for Gonzo. If only all the people on craigslist were as nice as them -- and followed through with what they say.

We've tried to feed him greens, but he doesn't want to eat them. He's supposed to due to his age. We got turnip greens, parsley and a squash based on a Bearded Dragon site we read. But.. Gonzo doesn't want to eat his vegetables. He only wants the "superworms". He really likes those things. Samantha caught him on video eating one. I'll eventually get around to editing it and posting it on YouTube (we have other pet videos there, too). We have to get some more of the worms because he's about out of them.

Bathtime for Gonzo We've also given him a bath twice - one being today. He doesn't "swim" around as much as the websites say he should. One reason might be because he can't get a grip on the tub. I'm going to be getting a mat to help out. Before his bath, Samantha vacuumed and put him on the floor. He did a little running around, which is good. When he's in his tank, he just lays up on his rock under the heat lamp. We'll make him a play area in the yard with bricks and rocks sometime soon. Maybe he'll move around more since it's hot outside.

He's got his own little personality that we find amusing. He tilts his head in different ways and rolls his eyes around. Whenever we get near him, he looks up at us. When he gets upset, he makes noises. Hopefully he'll get used to us more and not get so upset when being moved.

Domains for Sale

After serious consideration, I've decided to get rid of the BlogFlair domains I own. I was working on a website and had completed hundreds of graphics, thousands of lines of ASP and HTML code, and MySQL database. The plan was to use it to feed stuff for use on my MySpace blog, but I no longer have the time for it, and I no longer use MySpace. I'm also tired of paying for hosting that I'm not actively using.

If you are interested in buying the domains, you can read more on the site itself: www.blogflair.com . Please -- serious inquiries only.

Advertising on Eggs

Isn't that an odd concept. I just read an article on AJC that references the NYT stating that CBS plans to laser imprint TV show ads onto eggs - all with egg wordplay. I'd hunt down the original NYT article, but as this is just my morning breakfast read, I don't have time. But, I did want to immortalize the article. LOL. There's also mention of US Airways providing advertising on barf bags. Original Article: What haven’t they thought of?

2006.07.21 Edit: I found a picture of what the ads look like. Also, I looked around and found an article that goes in a little more detail: CBS' Egg-Centric Advertising

Gerbil Music Videos

Samantha made a bunch of videos of the gerbils doing things. I assembled them into the final videos set to music. See if you can name the songs. ;-)

I'll be making another video tonight as there was one more good video, but it was late and I needed to go to bed. The videos can be seen on my YouTube page.
